The 7-day detox plan

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word detox? Surely nasty soups and green smoothies that you can't drink without pinching your nose. Yes, our grandmothers used to tell us that the healthiest things aren't always delicious. But detoxing (or cleansing) doesn't have to be torture.

You’ve probably heard of the word detox by now. We’re sure you roughly know what it is, but you may not be 100% sure how it works.

You're probably wondering how toxins end up in your body in the first place? Well actually everything that surrounds us and everything we consume contributes to how our body functions. From unhealthy food, cosmetics and polluted air. Since our body is burdened with these toxins, we also need to cleanse it every so often. 

We suggest that you take 7 days at least twice a year for a full-body detox. How? Keep reading to find out more!

Prepare mentally

Detoxing can seem scary, even though it really isn't. It's good to mentally prepare yourself before you embark on this journey. Keep reading to learn how!

What is and what isn't allowed?

Detox is the process of cleansing the body of unhealthy toxins. This means you’ll have to say goodbye to coffee, alcohol, candy and junk food for a week. 

Does it seem impossible to give up coffee? I hear you!

You should avoid:

  • Alcohol and cigarettes
  • Milk and dairy products (it would be best to use the alternatives instead, our favourite: almond milk)
  • Coffee
  • Carbs (bread, cookies, cakes, pasta, rice, barley, oats)
  • Dried fruit

You should eat:

  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Fish, lean red meat, chicken (skinless)
  • Eggs
  • Beans, chickpeas, lentils
  • Nuts, seeds (plain, salt-free, roasted)
  • Tea (green, white or caffeine-free black tea)

Start your day off right

Kick-start your morning! The best way to start the day is to drink a glass of warm water or even better a cup of hot tea as soon as you get up. Drink more water
